The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 They do not expect any reward 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
