۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
