The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 except boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
