He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attended to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
