The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
