Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
