The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
