Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
