Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
