The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise, and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and defilement flee! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 He looked (at others); 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
