The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
