He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
