The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
