The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
