They ask you about the Spirit. Say, "The Spirit comes by the command of my Lord. You have been given very little knowledge. 85 If We pleased We could take away what We have revealed to you. Then you will not find any one to plead for it with Us, 86 except through the special mercy of your Lord. His favours towards you has been great indeed. 87 Say: 'If men and jinn banded together to produce the like of this Koran, they would never produce its like, not though they backed one another.' 88 We have indeed turned about for men in this Koran every manner of similitude; yet most men refuse all but unbelief. 89 and so they say: "[O Muhammad,] we shall not believe thee till thou cause a spring to gush forth for us from the earth, 90 or thou have a garden of date-palms and vines and cause rivers to gush forth in their midst in a sudden rush, 91 Or, let chunks of sky fall over us, as you assert (you will); or, bring God and the angels as a surety; 92 "Or thou have a house adorned with gold, or thou mount a ladder right into the skies. No, we shall not even believe in thy mounting until thou send down to us a book that we could read." Say: "Glory to my Lord! Am I aught but a man,- a messenger?" 93
