۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
