The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
