Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions ranged 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
