And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, "I will recite to you about him a report." 83 Lo! We made him strong in the land and gave him unto every thing a road. 84 So he followed a way 85 Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it [as if] setting in a spring of dark mud, and he found near it a people. Allah said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, either you punish [them] or else adopt among them [a way of] goodness." 86 He said: "As for him (a disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah) who does wrong, we shall punish him; and then he will be brought back unto his Lord; Who will punish him with a terrible torment (Hell). 87 But as for him who believes, and does righteousness, he shall receive as recompense the reward most fair, and we shall speak to him, of our command, easiness.' 88 He then followed (another) road 89 Till, when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had appointed no shelter therefrom. 90 Thus it was. And surely We have encompassed all that was with him in knowledge 91 Thereafter he followed a way. 92 Till he reached a place between two mountains, and found this side of it a people who understood but little of what was spoken. 93 They said: O Zul-Qarnain verily Yajuj and Majuj are working corruption in the land; shall we then pay thee tribute on condition that thou place between us and them a barrier! 94 He said: "(The power) in which my Lord has established me is better (than tribute): Help me therefore with strength (and labour): I will erect a strong barrier between you and them: 95 Bring me ingots of iron' After he had leveled between the two cliffs, he said: 'Blow' And when he made it a fire, he said: 'Bring me molten copper so that I may pour over it' 96 So they were not able to scale it nor could they make a hole in it. 97 He said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it into dust; and the promise of my Lord is true." 98 ۞ And on that Day [i.e. the Day Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog) will come out], We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another, and the Trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together. 99 We will fully expose the view of hell on that Day to the disbelievers, 100 those whose eyes had been veiled against any remembrance of Me because they could not bear to listen [to the voice of truth]! 101
