۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 We gave him, in excess, Isaac, and Jacob (for a grandson); and We made each righteous 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
