And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 "Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 "And He will give me death, then resurrect me." 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
