The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Dragging by the head, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Save worshippers. 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
