The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
