The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
