[Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said to the chiefs around him: "Verily! This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer. 34 Who desires to turn you out of your land with his magic; what is it then that you advise? 35 They said: "Put him off and his brother (for a while), and send callers to the cities 36 That they should bring to you every skillful magician. 37 The sorcerers were gathered at the appointed time on a wellknown day, 38 And the people were also asked to assemble. 39 The people said, “Perhaps we may follow the magicians if they are victorious.” 40 And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers? 41 He said: "Yes, you will then become those near-stationed to me." 42 Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw." 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs, and said, "By Pharaoh's honour, we shall surely win." 44 Therefore Moosa put forth his staff – so it immediately began swallowing all their fabrications. 45 And the magicians were thrown down prostrate; 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 48 Pharaoh said, "Have you come to believe in him, before I have given you permission? He is surely your master who has taught you magic. But you shall see. I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and crucify you all." 49 They said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 50 Verily we long that our Lord shall forgive us our faults because we have been the first of the believers 51
