Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
