a good many of olden times, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
