The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
