The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 therein a fountain whose name is called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
