The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 on a great day 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 A written record. 9 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 But, the Book of the righteous is in the 'Illiyoon. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 And it is mixed with Tasneem. 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 And whilst returning to their homes, they used to return rejoicing. 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 seated upon their couches, they are looking around. 35 Did not the disbelievers get repaid for what they used to do? 36
