The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day resplendent 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
