The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 no people can forestall their doom, nor can they delay it. 5 And yet they say: "You, to whom this Exposition has been sent are surely possessed of the Devil. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
