In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Allah has caused the works of those who disbelieve and hinder people from the way of Allah to go to waste. 1 whereas those who have attained to faith and do righteous deeds, and have come to believe in what has been bestowed from on high on Muhammad - for it is the truth from their Sustainer - [shall attain to God's grace:] He will efface their [past] bad deeds, and will set their hearts at rest. 2 That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allah set forth their parables for mankind. 3 NOW WHEN you meet [in war] those who are bent on denying the truth, smite their necks until you overcome them fully, and then tighten their bonds; but thereafter [set them free,] either by an act of grace or against ransom, so that the burden of war may be lifted: thus [shall it be]. And [know that] had God so willed, He could indeed punish them [Himself]; but [He wills you to struggle] so as to test you [all] by means of one another. And as for those who are slain in God's cause, never will He let their deeds go to waste: 4 He will soon guide them (towards Paradise) and make them succeed. 5 And will admit them into gardens with which he has acquainted them. 6 O you who believe! if you help (the cause of) Allah, He will help you and make firm your feet. 7 But as for the unbelievers, ill chance shall befall them! He will send their works astray. 8 That is so as they were averse to what has been revealed by God, and their actions will be nullified. 9 ۞ So did they not travel in the land to see what sort of fate befell those who preceded them? Allah poured ruin upon them; and for the disbelievers are several like it. 10 That is because Allah is the Protector of the believers whereas the unbelievers have none to protect them. 11
