The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a few from later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 and fruits abounding 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 on raised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
