The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise, and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
