The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they differ? 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
