He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble, pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
