The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 He looked (at others); 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
