O you apostles, eat things that are clean, and do things that are good. We are surely cognisant of what you do. 51 And lo! this your religion is one religion and I am your Lord, so keep your duty unto Me. 52 But people later cut up their religion into bits, each group rejoicing in what they have. 53 So leave them in their error for a time. 54 Do they think that We enlarge them in wealth and children, 55 We vie in good works for them? Nay, but they are not aware. 56 Those who tremble with fear of their Lord; 57 Those who believe in the Signs of their Lord; 58 And those who do not associate (aught) with their Lord, 59 And those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear, because they will return to their Lord;- 60 These race for the good things, and they shall win them in the race. 61 We charge no soul with more than it can bear. We have a record which clearly shows the truth and they will not be wronged. 62 Nay, their hearts are in overwhelming ignorance with respect to it and they have besides this other deeds which they do. 63 So that when We seize the affluent among them with affliction, they will begin to implore for help. 64 'Groan not today; surely you shall not be helped from Us. 65 My signs were recited to you, but upon your heels you withdrew, 66 In arrogance regarding it, conversing by night, speaking evil. 67 Have they not pondered the matter, or did that come to them, which did not come to their forefathers? 68 Or is it that they have not recognized their Apostle, so that they deny him? 69 Do they say he is mad! No, he came to them with the truth, but most of them hate the truth. 70 But if the truth were in accord with their own likes and dislikes, the heavens and the earth would surely have fallen into ruin, and all that lives in them [would long ago have perished]! Nay, [in this divine writ] We have conveyed unto them all that they ought to bear in mind: and from this their reminder they [heedlessly] turn away! 71 Or dost thou ask them for tribute? Yet the tribute of thy Lord is better, and He is the best of providers. 72 And indeed, you invite them to a straight path. 73 And lo! those who believe not in the Hereafter are indeed astray from the path. 74 ۞ If We took compassion on them and removed the affliction they are in, they would only wander lost in confusion. 75 We struck them with torment, but they did not submit themselves to their Lord, nor did they make themselves humble 76 Until We open on them a gate leading to a severe Punishment: then Lo! they will be plunged in despair therein! 77
