Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
