Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
