(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
