We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 And recall when your Lord said to the angels, “I will create man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud.” 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 All the angels prostrated before Adam 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 The Lord inquired: "Iblis! What is the matter with you that you did not join those who prostrated?" 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised." 36 Allah said: verily then thou art of the respited: 37 for an appointed time." 38 Iblis said, "Lord, because you have caused me to go astray, I shall make earthly things attractive to (people) and mislead all of them 39 "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them." 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 "Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghawin (Mushrikun and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.). 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
