Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 brought down by the Faithful Spirit 193 Upon thy heart, that thou mayst be (one) of the warners, 194 It has been revealed in plain Arabic. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel? 197 And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners 198 In order that he read it to them, even then they would not have believed in it. 199 Even so, We have caused it to enter into the hearts of harmdoers: 200 They will not believe in it to the extent that they see the painful punishment. 201 But the (Penalty) will come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 204 Just think: If We let them enjoy (the good things of life) for a few years more, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 what avail will their past enjoyments be to them? 207 Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it, 208 To warn. For We are never unjust. 209 The devils did not bring it down. 210 It would neither suit them nor would they be able (to produce it). 211 Most surely they are far removed from the hearing of it. 212 So do not call upon another god with Allah, lest you should be one of those who are punished. 213 And admonish thy nearest kinsmen, 214 And lower your wing to those who follow you of the believers. 215 But if they disobey you, then say: Surely I am clear of what you do. 216 and place thy trust in the Almighty, the Dispenser of Grace, 217 Who watches you when you stand up. 218 And thy movements among those who fall prostrate. 219 for, verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing! 220 [And] shall I tell you upon whom it is that those evil spirits descend? 221 They descend upon all sinful self-deceivers 222 who lends an ear to them, and most of them are liars. 223 As for poets, the erring follow them. 224 Art thou not aware that they roam confusedly through all the valleys [of words and thoughts,] 225 And they say what they do not do, 226 Except those who believed and did good deeds, and profusely remembered Allah, and took revenge after they had been wronged*; and soon the unjust will come to know upon which side they will be overturned**. (* The Muslim poets who praise Allah and the Prophet. ** The disbelievers will be punished.) 227
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
