And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 And then drew lots and was of those rejected; 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 he would indeed have remained in its belly till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 144 ۞ But We cast him, upon the shore, and he was ill, 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 “So do you not ponder?” 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 So you and your deities 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 And verily we! we are ranged in ranks. 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 Had we a reminder from those of yore, 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 And, verily, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers, 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 Therefore turn away from them for some time. 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And see, for they are going to see. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 So peace be on the messengers, 181 And all praise is to Allah, the Lord Of The Creation. 182
