Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
