The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
