The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a host of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
