A crowd of earlier generations 39 and a good many of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
