The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
